See and Fix Every Product Tag in Your Shopify Store

Tags do a lot of quiet work in a Shopify store. Automated collections are built from them, storefront filters read them, and apps use them to decide what to show. But Shopify gives you no single view of every tag and how many products carry it, and no way to rename one everywhere. Over a few years a store ends up with "Living Room", "living-room" and "livingroom" as three separate tags, and a collection that silently misses a third of its products.

The Tag Manager reads your product CSV and lists every tag with its product count, most used first. It points out tags that are the same word written different ways. You then rename, merge, delete or add tags in one screen and download a CSV with the changes applied to every product.

What You Can Do

Merge Duplicate Tags

Tags that differ only in capitals, spaces or hyphens are grouped for you. One button fills in the renames so every variation becomes the most used spelling, and you can review them before downloading.

Rename Across the Catalog

Type a new name beside any tag and it changes on every product that has it. Give two tags the same new name and they become one.

Delete Dead Tags

Tags from a finished promotion, an uninstalled app or an old import can be ticked for deletion. Sorting by use makes the one-product strays easy to spot.

Add and Standardise

Add one or more tags to every product in the file, convert all tags to lowercase, and sort each product's tags alphabetically so they are consistent.

How to Bulk Edit Shopify Tags in 4 Steps

  1. Export Your Products: In Shopify admin go to Products, choose Export, and download the CSV. To change only part of the catalog, filter the product list first and export the filtered products.
  2. Load Tags: Upload the file and click Load Tags to see every tag and its product count.
  3. Make Your Changes: Rename, merge, tick for deletion, or add new tags.
  4. Download and Import: Import the updated CSV into Shopify with the option to overwrite existing products selected.

Before You Rename a Tag

Check whether an automated collection or a theme filter depends on it. A collection with the condition "tag is equal to living-room" will empty out if that tag is renamed to "Living Room". Update the collection's condition to the new tag at the same time as the import. Tags that differ only in capitals are generally matched as the same tag by Shopify, so merging those variations tidies the spelling without changing which products a collection picks up.

Frequently Asked Questions

How do I see all the tags used in my Shopify store?

Export your products to CSV and load the file here. Every tag is listed with the number of products that use it, most used first.

How do I rename a tag on all products at once?

Load your product CSV, type the new name beside the tag, download the updated file and import it into Shopify with the overwrite option. The tag changes on every product that had it.

How do I merge two tags into one?

Give both tags the same new name, or rename one to match the other. Products that had either tag end up with the single merged tag, with no duplicates.

Will changing tags break my collections?

It can. Automated collections and storefront filters that match on a tag need their condition updated to the new tag name. Check them before you import.

Does it change anything besides tags?

No. Only the Tags column is edited. Every other column is written back exactly as it was.
